Toenail fungus infection (Onychomycosis) treatment with laser
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails that may involve any component of the nail unit, including the matrix, bed, or plate. Onychomycosis can cause pain, discomfort, and disfigurement and may produce serious physical and occupational limitations. Treatment options include oral or topical creams or solutions. Laser treatment is a newly modality to the eradication of this infection.
This infection is hard to treat with topicals and the treatment is continued for months before it totally responds. Laser treatment of these infections for 2-3 times every 4-6 weeks can irradicate the infection.
A physician consultation is required prior to this treatment to check the below:
Adequate blood flow to the toes and fingers.
To rule out skin infection on the foot and in between toes.
Adequate capillary blood flow return.
